Frequently asked questions

What is Socketlist?

Socketlist is an independent directory of MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers. It lists 4,330 servers from the official MCP Registry, each scored from 0 to 100 on maintenance, security hygiene and adoption.

What is an MCP server?

An MCP server is a program that exposes tools or data to an AI assistant using the Model Context Protocol, an open protocol for connecting assistants to external systems such as databases, code hosts and business apps.

Where does the data come from?

Server names, descriptions and versions come from the official MCP Registry. Stars, licence, last push, open issues and SECURITY.md presence come from the GitHub API, and weekly downloads from the npm API. We do not invent figures.

How is the score calculated?

Maintenance is worth 40 points, security hygiene 35 and adoption 25. The full breakdown is on the scoring page.

Is a high score a security guarantee?

No. The score is a triage signal built from public hygiene and activity signals. We do not audit code. Review the code, permissions and README before connecting any server to real data.

How often is the data updated?

We refresh from the registry, GitHub and npm periodically, and the date of the latest refresh is shown in the footer of every page (currently October 15, 2026). We do not claim real-time data.

Why is my server not listed?

We list servers that are in the official MCP Registry, link a public GitHub repository, are not archived and score at least 70. Check those points, then use the submit page to tell us.

How do I correct or remove a listing?

Use the contact form or email [email protected] with the server name or repository URL and what should change. We check corrections against the public sources.

Does paying change a server's score?

Never. Featured and sponsored placements are labelled and only affect where a paid listing appears, not its score.

What do the paid plans include?

Featured ($49/mo) pins your server at the top of its category with a Featured badge and lists it on the alternatives pages of similar servers. Premium ($97/mo) adds a homepage slot, a custom setup guide for your server and a monthly listing summary. Sponsor ($197/mo) adds a sitewide sponsor banner and a top slot in one issue of The Plug Weekly per month. Details are on the pricing page.

How do I buy, and how do I cancel?

Choose a plan on the pricing page and pay through Stripe Checkout. Afterwards you tell us which server to feature. Plans are monthly subscriptions that you can cancel any time from the link in your Stripe receipt; placement ends at the end of the paid period.

Do you sell or share my information?

No. We do not sell personal information. Payments are processed by Stripe. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I contact you?

Use the contact page, which has a form, or email [email protected].
